Žitište

The settlement was founded by the Szentgyörgyi family in the Middle Ages. The surviving documents mention its name for the first time in 1319. During the resettlement after the Ottoman era, Serbs and Romanians arrived in 1724, and from 1781 it became part of the estate of the Kisses, a family of Armenian descent. After that, Swabians, craftsmen and servants from Szeged settled down in those parts.
