The settlement with its origins going back to the Árpád Period was built as a crossing point next to the Tisza estuary of the Maty-stream. It was first mentioned in a certificate from 1330. It came into Szeged’s possession in 1726, the town distributed the land as vineyards and from the 1750s’, large-scale tobacco cultivation began at its border. The current townscape of the settlement came to be in the beginning of the 20th century. It’s ribbed street structure is interwoven with alleys, the traditional method of property layout is under local protection.
