The settlement with its origins going back to the Árpád Period was built as a crossing point next to the Tisza estuary of the Maty-stream. It was first mentioned in a certificate from 1330. It came into Szeged’s possession in 1726, the town distributed the land as vineyards and from the 1750s’, large-scale tobacco cultivation began at its border. The current townscape of the settlement came to be in the beginning of the 20^th century. It’s ribbed street structure is interwoven with alleys, the traditional method of property layout is under local protection.
