After the expulsion of the Turks, the left bank of the river Maros fell under the jurisdiction of the Temes Banat. The treasury area, bordered by Kiszombor and Klárafalva, has been continuously populated with tobacco gardeners since the end of the 18th century. Ferencszállás was established in 1837 on the Deszk-centred Gerliczy estate, which was purchased in 1804. Part of its border falls on the former Kukutyin plain. It is made up of flat arable land and floodplain groves.
In the place of the former tobacco orchards, field cultivation and intensive production of potato and onion are now the typical economic branches.
There are only 300 apartments in the village. It is a typical settlement with streets, made up of plots of equal size measured by engineers, which are located next to the Szeged-Makó main road. In the centre, the traditional dwelling houses are lined up along the street while the longhouses with pitched roofs, brick walls and built-in porches are built on the border of the plot. In the newly built parts of the settlement more typical are the canvas-topped square blocks standing separately, and the detached houses with a loft which were built over the last decades. The façades are mostly white, and in some cases windows have slightly plastered or painted frames. Some of the traditional buildings still have sawn plank edging. The traditional longhouses have been renovated in the last decade.
The population of the settlement was 605 people in 2015.
