It is a settlement from the age of the Árpád dynasty, which was first mentioned in the surviving documents in 1274 as Feyreghaz. It was the property of the Csanád clan. It was destroyed during the Turkish rule. Márkus Szerviczky bought it in 1781 as part of the manor of Törökkanizsa, and he settled tobacco gardeners from around Szeged in 1804.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Serbian refugees from the South Slavic wars settled down in the village and now they make up the majority of the population.
