The settlement is first mentioned in 1337 as Hodyghaz. During the Turkish times the Hungarian population interchanged with Serbs who moved here, and the village was renamed to Hodics. However, it became completely depopulated in the 18th century, and the Treasury Board established two new villages of tobacco gardeners from Szeged called Jázova-Hodics, which have united by now.
Ethnographer Sándor Bálint writes that the sunray appears on the façade of their houses, which reminds the local population of their Szeged roots.
