Kikinda
In the Middle Ages it was known as Kökénd. It was destroyed during the Turkish rule and then mentioned as a privileged Serbian territory under the name Districtus Kikinda, which survived even after the restoration of the county system in 1779, all until 1876, when it became part of Torontál County. During the existence of the districtus, a significant number of Germans and Hungarians from Szeged also settled in the area alongside the Serbs already living there. The families who spread out of Szeged have been mentioned in the registers of the Roman Catholic church in Kikinda since 1776.
