Torda
Torda, as a village name, can be found in a rather early, 13th and 14th century documents. The settlement was destroyed during the Turkish occupation. Although it is drawn on the Mercy map of 1723–1725 in the Becskerek district among the destroyed places, in 1773 the treasury founded the village which was then called Torontáltorda and settled mostly tobacco gardeners there from the outskirts of Szeged. The village of Torda was built on the basis of the plans of Maria Theresa’s engineers and in the spirit of the classicizing style of the 19th century, keeping the floor plan features of the tobacco-growing villages of Szeged.
